October 4, 2019 – ACED members and stakeholders heard firsthand from a local developer, Oakwood Homes, about its exciting plans to develop its Reunion Center development into a regional sports, retail, entertainment, and education destination.
The development is a regional model for placemaking in economic development, an approach that focuses on the unique features of particular places, building on existing assets, and using them to attract new investment and strengthen existing businesses.
At 2,500 acres, Reunion includes 1,600-acres of residential and over 900-acres for mixed-use and commercial development. Kelly Leid, EVP of Community Operations for Oakwood, detailed key features of Reunion Center’s future plans for “purposeful placemaking:”
- A total projected build out of nearly 10,000 homes and 20,000 + residents
- The Reunion Coffee House, a local community-centered hang out
- The Reunion Center, a 430-acre development with a range of urban-style housing, sports facilities, food & retail options
- The STEAD School serving 660 9th – 12th graders at full buildout
• Large active adult community
• New attainable housing products tailored toward teachers & first responders
